Budapest and Balaton: The Perfect Destination for Five Days of Relaxation
For this year’s Laybor day holidys, we decided to explore the beauty of Hungary, our eastern neighbor. Due to the favorable weather forecast, we chose Budapest and Balaton as our destinations. We had five days, which was just enough to experience both the urban hustle of Budapest and the peaceful relaxation by Balaton.
Traveling in Style with VW California Beach T6.1
We set off very early in the morning to avoid traffic jams and to ensure that our children sleep for most of the journey. The drive with stops to Budapest took us about five and a half hours. Our home for the next few days was Arena Budapest Camp: https://arenacamping.eu/, which is located in an excellent location and was perfect for photographing our VW California Beach T6.1 motorhome. The camp is close to a bus station, making it easy to access the center of Budapest.
First Stop: Budapest
Upon arrival, we set up our motorhome on a pleasant sandy plot with plenty of shade. Despite some extra work, lifting the roof and preparing the beds, every moment in our motorhome brought us immense satisfaction. A full day of exploring the city combined with the nighttime comfort of our vehicle created the perfect recipe for an unforgettable experience.
We spent three days exploring Budapest: we admired the city center, rode the Ferris wheel, visited the castle, the aquarium, the Chain Bridge, and enjoyed Hungarian delicacies like Dobos cake and lángos. Every moment was filled with magical experiences.
Second Stop: Balaton
After three days in Budapest, we headed towards Balaton, where we settled at Caravan Camping: https://caravancamping.hu/en/. We set up our motorhome again and got to photographing. Unfortunately, at that time it wasn’t possible to rent bikes, as all rental shops were closed. Nevertheless, we found a solution— we walked along the bike path to the town of Balatongyörök and took the train back.
Although boats were not operating during the low season, we found one in the town of Keszthely and enjoyed a relaxing ride. This experience was wonderful, as it had been a long time since I had been on a boat.
